Jallianwala Bagh Massacre: Humanity in Question?
They say that where words end, pictures speak. And this picture speaks volumes about the shallow depths to which humanity could sink to. One of the most valuable things on this planet is life itself, more so human life. Many poets and philosophers have described life as beautiful and tender, comparing it to freshly blossomed flowers. But it was on that unfortunate day, that those flowers were stepped on and crushed. The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre goes down in history as an event that we would love to forget, but need to remember. For the sacrifice of the brave hearts who had only one wish on their tongue, freedom of our motherland from the clutches of the British Empire. Moments like these are capable of reminding us of just how brutally violent and cunning humanity can just be. Since ages, we have fallen victim to our thirst for power and domination. And it is this very thirst, that motivates me to put forward one question. “Are we really humans?”
If the answer to this question is yes, then how can a human be so driven by his quest for power that he chooses to turn a blind eye to the hurt that he is causing upon someone else? Another person who more or less has the same threshold for pain as he himself does, and has just about the same right to live life with complete freedom? But that does not mean that beauty is completely absent in the picture. Now you may ask, how can a scenario where hundreds of people are lying in a pool of their own blood, be remotely beautiful in any aspect? Just the mere fact that they succumbed for the better good of the country. It is a sacrifice that did not go down in vain. The sheer amount of courage and honour it took to be on the receiving end of such an atrocity, makes them no less than an invincible entity. And it is for this very reason, that the incident is still remembered today. Not just because of how brutal it was in nature, but because of a sacrifice that can`t be forgotten for the generations to come.
So next time you have a look at his picture, do not sympathize with these brave souls. Very few are blessed with such a fortunate death. They are not victims, they are martyrs. And peace be upon them, for the air in and around those premises sings hymns in their praise, even today. Their presence is not just felt, but also celebrated. Let this incident motivate all of mankind to never make such a heinous mistake again. Because the biggest defeat is one, where your own even evil tendencies succeed in bringing you on your knees.
