I JUST DIED IN YOUR ARMS, TONIGHT!

“Dhruv, stop it! It is really annoying, you know I do not appreciate this behavior of yours!” yelled Kavya, as she pushed Dhruv away. He had constantly been poking her forehead, much to her annoyance. And although she pretended to be irritated, she could not help but smile at his innocence. “Oh, that is absolutely why I am doing it. You look prettier when you`re annoyed, and I am proud to be a man to a lady as beautiful as this one!” exclaimed Dhruv as he giggled, only to leave Kavya blushing. Dhruv and Kavya could be best described as a young energetic couple, full of life. Although they had been in a relationship for 2 years now, each day seemed like a fresh one to fall in love once again. That was the intensity of chemistry that was shared between these two love birds. “This is truly the most special way in which we could have celebrated our anniversary, and I cannot thank you enough for this pleasant surprise! You surely know how to make a lady smile” said Kavya, still blushing. It was evident that her cheeks were transitioning to the color of her lipstick, bright red. All thanks to Dhruv, who left no stone unturned to make sure that his lady was enjoying each moment of the surprise that was planned for her. It was the 2nd anniversary of their relationship, exactly 2 years ago Dhruv had fallen on his knees before Kavya.

Fast forward to today, they were celebrating the special day by having dinner in a reputed local restaurant. It was targeted at the upper middle-class audience, but Dhruv had been saving up for a while now just for this special occasion. “I don`t know if I am destined to be with you, but I know one thing for sure. I`ll spend more time figuring out ways to make you smile than I would while planning out my career. Because trust me when I say this, Kavya. I`ve been worshipping Mathematics for years now, but now I wish to worship the goddess before me. And this equation of love that we share, it`s perfect in comparison to any other I`ve come across in my course book” these were the exact words said by Dhruv, as he looked right into her eyes that were glowing with pride. “I could never understand your obsession with Mathematics, Dhruv. Why are you like this?” she asked in a rather inquisitive tone, expecting her question to be followed by another witty line. “I could never understand my obsession with you either, Kavya. Which is why I constantly ask myself, why I am like this!” he joked as they both erupted with laughter once again. Dhruv could not help but feel satisfied. For him, the best part of the night was the smile that was being carried on Kavya`s face. For Kavya, she knew that he was a genius in his own right. But for him to invest so much of his intelligence in ensuring her happiness, she was just amazed at the dedication of whom she considered her “one and only.”

“The food is delicious, isn`t it?” asked Kavya, as she took a bite from the steak that was on Dhruv`s plate. She then proceeded to stick her tongue out at him, in order to tempt him like she always had. Being playful was a unique trait that Kavya possessed, and Dhruv had absolutely no objections. If anything, he absolutely adored her to the point where he willingly celebrated what others considered to be her ‘imperfections.’ “Yes, it sure is delicious. But it lacks the flavor that resides in those tender, juicy, gentle lips of yours. Don`t you think?” he asked her, just to leave her astonished once again. “Focus on the food, Dhruv!” coughed Kavya, sarcastically. She was secretly enjoying each second of what was happening, and Dhruv knew that. This is why he would take her negative feedback for granted and proceed with his romantic antics. “Ditch the food, princess. I`d rather lend my attention to you” said Dhruv as he wiped his mouth with a tissue, and stood up from his chair. “What`s wrong, Dhruv? Do you not like the food?” asked Kavya, slightly worried at this sudden gesture that was portrayed by Dhruv. “The food is absolutely amazing, but not as amazing as you are. Come on gorgeous, would you accompany your hopeless romantic to the stage for a dance of fortune?” he asked as he got down on his knees once again, placing a gentle kiss on the back of her palm.“Sure thing my prince charming” whispered Kavya as she willingly accepted the offer. Dhruv then led her towards the stage, and within moments they were dancing in each other`s arms.

Everything seemed perfect. The stage was lit and bright, but their smiles were brighter. The music was divine, but what made the dance special was the passionate amount of love that these two souls had for each other. “Dhruv, why do you love me this much?” asked Kavya, as she wrapped her arms around Dhruv`s shoulder, and looked him right into the eyes. “Kavya, I love you so much because you are worth being loved. If there`s anything that shines brighter than a diamond, it`s your presence in my life which is worth a million dollars. And I`ll tell you, darling, the fact that I was the chosen one to take care of this diamond just makes me feel privileged” answered Dhruv, his eyes too fixed at his princess. “I wish this moment could stay forever, Dhruv. Just you and me, no worries. No troubles. No sorrows. Just happiness” she whispered as she stuffed her face in his chest. Being wrapped in Dhruv`s arms made her feel a lot more comfortable and warm than any thick blanket could. Dhruv slowly brushed his fingers through her hair, and placed a comforting kiss on Kavya`s forehead.

However, what he did next was absolutely shocking. He proceeded to pull out a revolver from his pocket, and placed it right across her forehead. “Plan to kill me today, honey? Won`t work, I died the day I fell in love with you” she winked, not losing her cool. Kavya trusted Dhruv with her life, and she knew that he would never pull the trigger no matter what it took. “Where did you find this, by the way? Is this even a licensed one?” enquired Kavya as she looked up at him with curiosity. “No, it is an unlicensed one” replied Dhruv. “Strange, we could land up behind the bars for possession of illegal weapons. But that is not the bad part. We won`t be locked up in the same cell” she joked, as she bumped his chest playfully with her fist. “There is no lockup in heaven, Kavya. If anything, the real prison is the life that we`ve been locked up into. But no more, it shall all come to an end when we surpass the narrow walls of this prison, and reunite once again” whispered Dhruv as he placed a gentle kiss on Kavya`s forehead.“Dhruv, I don`t get you…what do you have in mind?” uttered Kavya in a rather nervous tone.  Now she was unsure where all of this was leading, and it all suddenly seemed uncomforting.“

Dhruv then began with what could be considered the most impactful speech recorded in his life. “Listen to me, honey. This life that we`re living, it`s full of obstructions. We can`t make time for each other, simply because we are too busy making a future for ourselves. But the best future that we could have, is with each other! This life is a pain. We have been trapped in a world of competition, hypocrisy, where everyone has made themselves a part of this rat race. We are just normal people, and our only intention is to go on loving each other in this world that stinks with hatred. This is our only chance, Kavya. To leave it all behind and reunite in a place that could never separate us” he said, as his voice began cracking with intensity. Kavya could never believe his words, she was speechless. But there was indeed some truth to his statement. She sobbed in his chest and whispered 3 words to him. “Meet you there,” said Kavya, as she closed her eyes and hugged him tightly. Dhruv pulled the trigger, as Kavya lay unconscious in his arms. With a narrow stream of blood flowing through her forehead. “Meet you there,” said Dhruv too, as he pressed the revolver against his own forehead and pulled the trigger. It was a matter of seconds before both of them lay in a pool of their own blood, in each other`s arms. Have they reunited successfully, or had their love pushed them beyond the realms of their senses? The answer is left to your interpretation.
